Garden balconies

Invite the spring and let it crawl into your balconies, whether you have a city home, a village home, or both.

Lets start planting in our window sills and make our balconies look pretty and welcoming. No matter how big they are, we can still turn them into the perfect place for relaxing. Enjoying a green balcony with lots of flower pots amongst all the concrete we live in will surely transform your mood and will reflect on the city’s general look.

Maximize your space:

Place the big pots on the floor and in places that will not disrupt your movement and furniture accessories. To make the best out of your space, use as many hanging pots as you can, these pots will not take up any of your space and will still give you beautiful scenery. You can even have some hang on your walls.

Sun or shade?

Always ask your nursery what kind of light the plant you chose needs and place it accordingly on your balcony after studying where it is mostly sunny and where there is the most shade.

What to choose?

Try to use plants that cope well with shade, heat, and low water levels to endure our hot summers, for example: cactus, gardenia, jasmine, geranium, bird of paradise etc… from my experience the mentioned plants where a success in my city balcony.

Dont we all deserve a corner to disconnect?

In a garden balcony you can spend a couple of minutes taking care of your plants which will give you positive energy, physical exercise, and a moment of peace after a hard and busy day in the city.

Among my most vivid childhood memories are my visits with my parents to our relatives and sitting on their balconies that looked like small oasis. It brought family and friends together because when you sit in a place that is sending out positive vibes you will want to stay longer and your mood will be positive and delightful.

Kitchen balconies,

My grandmother’s kitchen balcony always had a pot of margoram, basil, sage, rosemary, tomatoes, mint. Etc… I can still see her snipping a few leaves to add to her kibbeh كبة, or any other dish she was preparing.

Now, I do the same on my kitchen balcony. This will save you money and will benefit your health since you will not need to buy chemically treated vegetables anymore. This also helps save our environment; cutting down on the resources needed to supply consumers with vegetables and greens on a daily basis.

Essential tip:

Always remember to collect the seeds of different flowers for next summer. Dry them very well and save in containers in a dark and dry place. I personally enjoy sharing my seeds with neighbors, family, and friends they make a wonderful gift; “from my garden to yours”

“share what is beautiful with everyone without expecting anything, but expecting smiles and gratefulness, in this way you will never be disappointed.”
